Geocache Description:

This cache is in the moor in a wood nearby Dabas.

This is the last marsh forest left on the Alföld. It is special because although it is away from the Danube, it reminds a floodplain in the middle of the barren. It’s fauna and flora is diverse, on this the long-ago floodplain of the Danube alders are growing while many different rare plants are raising on the marsh meadow. Amongst them you’ll find orchids named talkative like the Fly Orchid (Ophrys insectifera) or the Bee Orchid (Ophrys apifera), their blooms suggest the respective insects bewilderingly. After heavy rains or snow thaw one could even convey on boat, reportedly. During spring and summer, the water lily (Hottonia palustris) flourishes in mass. Turtles (Emys orbicularis) settled themselves in the smaller streams in the surroundings, the veily iris (Iris spuria) on the trenches. It is worth to roam in the juniper area behind the marsh forest, you’ll find special plants over there as well.

The way to the cache
Follow the old main road in Dabas, then turn to the right if coming from Budapest or to the left if from Kecskemét at N 47 11.130' E 19 18.579'. If we both measured it right, you’ll be right in the Kossuth László street. Leave the Kossuth house behind you (and leave your car there if you used one to come here), then once the paved road ended, follow the dirt road that goes from bad to worse. Should you insist on using your car, It’s not advisable to pursue driving over the half of the distance. The box (as your GPS will show you) is hidden more or less straight ahead. If the water-level is high, you may need to jump a few times in the marsh. If you can, rely on the base of the trees to get there, it will help you to safeguard your shoes. Enjoy the hunting!
