Geocache Description:

An old trading centre that could have become the municipal centre - had it not been for the bridge to Hinnøya that was built some miles to the south...

Fra Olavsrosa.no:
Jennestad Trade Centre enjoyed its moment of glory at the beginning of the 1900s. At that time a large farm and graphite mines were in operation here in addition to the trading activities, and Jennestad thus had an international contact network. A gradual restructuring of traffic patterns in the district resulted in a disintegration of the basis for trade here. The trade came to an end in 1982. Today the wharf and the shop are run as a trade museum, while the main farm is the venue for various cultural and social activities.

From http://home.online.no/~leande/jennesta.htm:
Jennestad was one of the important trading centres in Nordland in the beginning of this century. It has existed for more than one hundred years. The spirit of the past is kept alive in the buildings and the atmosphere.

Trade was not confined to this country, influence from abroad is equally apparent; fashions from Paris could be found beside shoe polish, nails, fishing hooks and hairpins. A trader in this region had to be prepared to supply almost anything.

Today the old buildings contain an art gallery, a concert room, a workshop for arts and crafts, and a repair shop for restoration of old-style windows and frames.

Additional pictures are avilable at http://home.enter.vg/aasta54/jenn.htm.

The cache is hidden in an old stone wall. Do not remove or disturb any of the stones - the cache is in an easily accessible hole that might be a bit hard to spot because of vegetation.

Fra Olavsrosa.no:
