This cache is a white plastic tub, quite large so room for bits and pieces, TBs etc.
Will be starting it off with:
- A clip
- Small toy car
- Whistle
- Rubber bally thing
- Dinosaur Stamp
This cache is located at the top of some delightful open chalk downland. The area contains some superb plants at different times of the year. The Bluebells are something not to be missed. They are best seen in the last week of April to the second week of May.
On the top of the hill is a cross which after many weeks of research I have drawn a blank in finding out about. There are two possible reasons for it's existence.
- The buildings here at the top of the hill have for many years been owned by Christian organisations (currently Oakhall), (originally built by Tate of Tate & Lyle fame) and that the cross was erected by one of the previous owners.
- The more romantic, but I suspect less accurate, story is that it was erected in memory of a fighter pilot who died in one of the two wars.
My reason for suspecting explanation 2 to be only a story is that the local historian said that although he didn't have any knowledge that explanation 1 was the case the Cross was erected to recently for someone not to remember the latter reason, also their is no plaque on the cross with a name.
Also there is now an orientation table to give you an idea of what you can see form the top as you do get some really nice views.
