The cache is a small, cammoed Lock-n-Lock. The terrain is a 1.5 at the cache location, but a bike ride or a hike is needed to arrive at this destination. It's about a mile and a quarter uphill from the Garcia Road (NF-9020) crossing of the trail, or 10 miles down from the west end of the tunnel. Another option would be to hike the McClellan Butte Trail and follow the GPSr when you get to the railroad grade.
I was glad to bike through the Snoqualmie Tunnel during the Iron Horse II bike ride/caching event on May 14, 2005. Shortly before I emerged from the tunnel, the left pedal crank arm fell off of my borrowed bike.
From the moment the pedal first detached inside of the tunnel, I repeatedly witnessed the generosity and camaraderie of the geocaching community. Four different times, the left pedal crank arm fell off of my borrowed bike, and each time I was immediately surrounded by an assortment of calm troubleshooters who good-naturedly helped me continue the journey: AnalogDog, k7-wave, runhills, Moun10Bike, Right Wing Wacko, and Zebo were some of the key players of the Iron Horse Pedal Pit Crew throughout the day.
This cache was placed at the site of the final demise of the bike on the Iron Horse Trail. While we were stopped here deciding what to do, we realized this spot, with its beautiful view of Banana Ridge across the valley, would be perfect for a cache. No one had a complete cache ready, but Right Wing Wacko had a lock-n-lock and a log book, and everyone else came up with a couple of trinkets each to fill the container. After placing the cache, runhills pushed me on my pedal-impaired bike, while still riding his own bike, for over a mile to the early-out point at the Garcia Road crossing, and Rickie arrived in his white steed to pick up the broken bike. Right Wing Wacko accompanied Rickie back to Rattlesnake Lake, and allowed me to finish out the event ride on his mountain bike.
This cache was originally placed by Right Wing Wacko, Moun10Bike, runhills, NBJPoppa, Bunygrl, Litlbuny, ruck, and me on May 14, 2005 during the Iron Horse II event. Right Wing Wacko maintained the cache for the next three years, and when he offered it for adoption, I gladly accepted.
