Geocaching agent Anna Moore meets the Dragon...
The Dragon is one of many rivers that stream down from the mighty Taurus mountains into the Mediterranean Sea. The crystal clear fresh water invites you for a swim when it's too hot to leave the shade in summer... However, beware of the currents and rapids...
The 800 year old bridge "Ala Köprü" over the Dragon is still in use today
This cache has two approaches, one by car and one by a little hike (about 5km in total). We only describe the hike here in more detail. The drive-by variant is an adventure of its own: From the road Anamur to Ermenek, try to find a way to waypoint N36°10.065' E032°54.055' with your car. If you want to (or need to) ask for directions, "Baraj" means weir in Turkish...
For both approaches, first take the road from Anamur to Ermenek. To do the hiking variant, park your car just in front of the "Ermenek 100" sign at N36°10.389' E032°53.595' at the road side. Follow the little gravel road to N36°10.376' E032°53.883'. You'll get a nice view down on the old Seldjuk bridge "Ala Köprü" and the river Dragon. Keep just above the wheat field, and continue on a small single trail from the other side of the field towards the cache coordinates.
Follow down the gravel road to get to the weir. Go upstream to some nice swimming and picnic spots along the river banks. The best return path to the car is to reverse on the same trail.
Please be aware that local farmers and shepards can be around. So, please be careful when retrieving the cache and make sure it is re-hidden well again.
Please trade fair: Trade up, trade even, or don't trade!
This cache is maintained by Mustafa Sagin and family, and consists of a round plastic container keeping a smaller one (double shell).
