Geocache Description:

.o0O  Virtual Insanity  O0o.

This is a musically themed Cache of around 1.5 miles in length that follows the Princes Risborough end of the Phoenix Trail. It should take around 45 minutes of easy strolling, and you will enjoy the lovely village of Horsenden on the way.

Previously owned by The Knights who say Ni, adopted by team Rodent_Boy & now Sapphirites

The Phoenix Trail

Launched in spring 2002 The Phoenix Trail comprises a series of 30 artworks sited over 5 miles between Thame and Princes Risborough. It was inspired by the old railway environment and the landscape looking out to the Chiltern Hills. Read more about it here

The co-ordinates will take you to a car park by a bridge on the B4009 between Longwick and Bledlow.

From here, you will need to gather the clues that will lead you to the final Cache.

You will need to do some light maths to work out the final Cache co-ordinates.

If you wish to take/leave something, please bear in mind that this cache has a musical theme, so try to leave things of a musical nature, whether it's a CD, Video, instrument or anything else vaguely musical.  Please don't leave anything with adult lyrics or content however.

The Cache was restored on March 27 2010 by team rodent_boy containing:

  • Peter Grant CD
  • Summer Serenade Classic FM CD
  • Culture Club 2CD
  • Set of colouring pencils
  • Sure Start trolley coins
  • Monsters Inc. Keyring
  • Money TB and Zebra TB
  • One of my guitar thumb picks.
  • A small logbook, pen & pencil.

Please note that you will not need to venture off public rights of way during the Cache.

Park at the given co-ordinates and climb the steps/ramp to the bridge.

Take a look at the 'Phoenix Trail' information sign. What are the 2 digits inside a red rectangle?  The answer forms A B.

Now follow the sign as it directs towards Princes Risborough and take the ramp down in that direction.

In a short while the footpath crosses a railway line.  It's out of service now, but still carries the occasional Steam Train at weekends.

Don't worry though - it's gated, and the Trains must stop to open the gate before passing!

On the footpath beyond, you should be able to see Whiteleaf Cross to the left in the hillside.

Follow the footpath until you come to the first Cottage in Horsenden.

There is a Telegraph pole next to the Cottage with the letters ‘BT’ carved and underlined, followed by a number and letter on the next line.

What is the number?  The answer is C.

Now you need to find the village Church which is a little further on.

How many 'Angels' are watching you from the Heavens?  The answer is D.

For the final clue, you need to follow the road onward until you find the answer to the following question:

Did we do well under Thatcher?

When you think you've found the answer to this, how many Chimney stacks can you see directly in front of you?  The answer is E.

Nearby is Horsenden Manor, whose current owner is the pop star Jay Kay of Jamiroquai fame, which is why we named this Cache ‘Virtual Insanity’ after one of his hits.  Allegedly he paid £1.3m for the 11 bedroom Manor with library, ballroom and wine cellar, set in 45 acres of land.

Take your answers to A,B,C,D & E and work out the final Cache location below:
N 51° 4(B-4).(E-2)D(C-2) W 00° 5(A-4).E1(D+5)

Now you may go to the edge of Virtual Insanity... Good luck!

Just to be absolutely clear, you don’t need to pay Jay Kay a visit or venture onto his land to find the Cache :)

Also, if you take something, please leave something musical in its place, and try to ensure the Cache is re-hidden exactly where found.  Thanks!

While you're on the Phoenix Trail, there is also Simply Pauls 'Art of the Phoenix Trail' in the Thame direction.

Cache was adopted by our good friends, HouseFamily and now passed into the care of team Rodent_Boy
