East Texas’ Hardest Mystery Cache Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Thot: They've made some changes at the gazebo that would require I replace the clue that was there. Since no one does this cache anymore I think it's time to archive it.

Geocache Description:

I Think This Is a Very Difficult Cache
Please do not try this cache if you are just passing through

ATTENTION!!

This cache is being muggled regularly.  Someone (or something) is stealing the container soon after I put out a new one.  So . . .

You must let me know in advance if you think you've unraveled the mystery and I'll place a new cache.  Then after you find it I will pick it up and await the next finder.

Sorry about this.

I wanted to see if I could hide a cache in easy terrain that's super difficult to find.  I thought my first cache was going to be very easy, but several people have had difficulty with it.  I expect this puzzle cache to be extremely difficult.

Apparently it's as hard as I thought.  There were three independent finds in the first month.  Then I relaxed the rules and in more than a year after that there were only three more independent finds.

Because it's intended to be a difficult challenge I have established the following rules:

  • No one can get hints or help of any kind from anyone who has found the cache.  Each finder or team must find the cache without help.
  • If you find it, you're sworn to secrecy -- you're forbidden to give hints or help of any kind to anyone else.  This includes someone you cache with regularly, if they weren't with you when you figured this one out.
  • Each person who claims a find must state in his/her log "I [and my team (list other members)] found this cache without outside help of any kind."  This is a requirement for your find to count.
By help I mean help from another cacher who has found the cache or has information specific to this cache and how to find it, or works on the solution with you (other than members of your team).  I don't mean you can't ask a policeman, grocer or stranger a question, as long as they know nothing about this cache.  And, by asking the question you do not give the person asked a clue to the solution.

For those who didn't see the original rules the main change is, I now permit teams.  But, as stated above these teams cannot get outside help.  Please limit teams to 5 people.  A team of 10, 25, or 100 can't really be a working team, and just becomes a large group sharing in a few people's solution.

Please don't include in your logs anything you've figured out, anything you did or any skill you used.

You can ask me questions, but I may or may not answer them.  I only expect to answer questions about the intent of the rules, the procedures that come from them or the meaning of words on this cache page.  I do not expect to answer questions about the location of the cache or how to find it.  Based on the questions I've received so far I answer almost none.

As people write me with questions, if I answer them I will post the answers and the precedents I am creating here.  You may want to check now and then to see if there are new question/answers.

I have not misled/tricked you intentionally, but it's hard to do things in a way that can't be misunderstood.  If you wonder what I meant by something I said, tell me what you think I mean and I may clarify.

Warning

It's a mystery cache so you're likely to run into things you don't expect.  Don't be surprised if you don't succeed the first time out (or the second, or third, or maybe never).  Based on the mail I have received, many try but few succeed.

Some people feel a difficult cache demands a bountiful booty at the end.  This is a micro cache containing only a log.  The adventure here is finding the container, not what's in it.

I want you to know all this up front so you won't be disappointed or upset if you try it.  If you feel like the conditions of this cache aren't your cup of tea, please pass it by.
