Geocache Description:

POSTED COORDINATES ARE NOT THE CACHE COORDINATES! This is a challenging hunt which re-creates the major part of the famous Edgar Allan Poe short story, 'The Gold Bug'. This cache is intended for dedicated hunters; it will require patience!

In 1843, Edgar Allan Poe penned “The Gold Bug”, a short story which not only established his name as an American literary genius, but also became what is arguably the earliest recorded account of a geocaching hunt! Your search for this cache will recreate the major parts of that famous short story.

Before starting here, you will need to find “GB1 – The Gold Bug 1” cache in order to obtain the clue contained in that cache. That clue, plus a reading of Poe's short story “The Gold Bug”, will provide the key instructions you’ll need to find this cache. The coordinates posted at the top of this description page are meaningless! Start your hunt by obtaining the clue from “GB1”; then it and Poe's story will lead you to the cache.

“The Gold Bug” by Edgar Allan Poe, may be found at any library in a collection of Mr. Poe's writings, or online.

What ho! what ho! this fellow is dancing mad!
He hath been bitten by the Tarantula.
