The caching area PMR comms channel is channel 2.
It is possible to access this cache from the layby on the A610 which is 2 minutes from the M1 with an adjacent turnaround point using the roundabout at the Awsworth turnoff. The trackbed is easily accessed from the far end of the layby.
This cache is a small plastic box about 5”x 5”, It contains a menagerie of cache items but railway themed items are very welcome.
The Great Northern Railway’s Derbyshire extension was built between 1873 and 1875 and this walk will take you past Awsworth Junction (now a big hump in the path roughly where the signal box stood) towards Kimberley. At Awsworth Junction, the line split and the Pinxton branch ran across the valley along a huge red brick viaduct of 44 arches. Whilst the Derby line ran across the (now removed) bridge over the road where the steps are up to the embankment.
The top of the steps is a good point to stop and look around the area, the line of the Derby bound track can be seen as a low bank behind the houses and then on to Awsworth station of which all that remains is the station house. Ikea is easily visible and roughly marks the other end of the 44 arch brick viaduct that once stood to the right of the Gate Inn. The A610 now runs along the trackbed of the Pinxton branch from Ikea to just beyond Eastwood where it veers off to the left of the path of the GN. The Grade II listed Bennerley viaduct made from cast Iron sections lies beyond Awsworth and allowed the GN to cross the Erewash valley to Ilkeston and on to Derby. From one station to another, Ilkeston police station now stands where the GN’s Ilkeston North station stood (look for the mast on the hill beyond awsworth). In the other direction, Kimberley station buildings still exist and the route continued from there via Bulwell to Nottinham Victoria Station, now Victoria Centre. 
The last trains passed by in 1966 and the tracks were lifted in 1970. The Gate Inn has some old pictures of the area on the wall and is a handy place to stop for refreshment. Further along the Hogs Head serves a wide range of food. You may also notice Bridges van hire, (named as it was then Bridges Garage) the name was an apt one before the viaduct and bridge were demolished.
