"Resistance... is futile."
Ah, Star Trek words that struck fear into the hearts of characters and viewers alike! Right alongside phrases like "He's dead, Jim." or "I've detected an unknown space anomaly." Whether the original Star Trek series with Kirk and Spock, or the Next Generation with Picard and Riker, some of my favorite memories of the shows were the script gems like these. Fortunately, most species in the galaxy (including the futuristic and virtually omnipotent Borg) spoke English, but sometimes they had to use a "Universal Translator" Mechanism (except when they really needed it, and then it didn't work).
And who could forget the oddities that we looked for and laughed at each week? Shatner's over-the-top delivery style, Spock's arching eyebrow, and Uhura's "Tight Mini-skirt" (so racy for the times!)... Picard absent-mindedly tugging at his uniform, Riker's inept overbearing walk, and Troi's bizarre hairstyles and downright sexy uniforms! We even had a drinking game where you had to take a drink every time these oddities appeared. And of course, the more you drank, the funnier everything became. :)
But now we face dark times. Star Trek's latest incarnation, Enterprise, has been cancelled, and for the first time since 1987, Star Trek in some form will not be on TV except in reruns. This cache is partially in honor of Star Trek, which I discovered in late night reruns during college and still record on my TiVo. And partially in honor of my fellow cachers, some of whom will come to this page and say to themselves, "Hurray, another puzzle cache!", and some who will say "Oh crap... another puzzle cache." This one's for you!
