What you need:
- Good Shoes (Flip Flops will not do the job)
- Enough Water
- Some Time (2-3 hours)
Attention:
You will have to walk from the parking lot roundabout 30 min down into a gorge. The path is plastered and quite easy to walk, but has quite a lot steps (200 m height difference).
Because the last metres to the cache are quite challenging we think, that children could have some
problems. We also recommend not to go alone.
This is a nice cache-trip for people interested in monasteries.
It is located on the Akrotiri Peninsula, east of Chania While getting to the cache you will pass three
monasteries. You can normally visit all of them during the daytime, during noon they might be closed
for several hours, except the last monastery which is a ruin and can be visited without any
restrictions.
The first monastery is called Agia Triada and can be found at N35°33.637 E024°08.080.
The second one is the Moni Gouvernetou and can be found at N35°35.096 E024°08.393. At this place you
should park you car and start walking!
At the end of the parking lot you will see the beginning of a path which will lead you to the third
monastery. During your walk you will pass two caves. The first one, the “bear-cave” is placed at
N35°35.343 E024°08.618, the second cave is just a few meters above the monastery ruin in the gorge,
you will pass it automatically.
The monastery in the gorge can be found at N35°35.422 E024°08.768. From this place it is just a few
more meters to the cache, but you have to climb a little bit. It is not too hard, but be careful.
The cache location is N35°35.461 E024°08.786
Around the cache location you will find fragments of walls. The cache is NOT hidden in these walls, so:
PLEASE DON´T TAKE BRICKS OUT OF THE WALLS.
Additional Info:
After you have found the cache, you can walk down into the gorge. Following the gorge you will reach
the sea after 15 min. This is beautiful place for swimming and especially for snorkelling. It is like
a small fjord in the rocks, no beach!!
So, if you like, take some swimming stuff with you! For the caves it would be useful to take a torch
with you.
