One night, I couldn't get to sleep, so I turned on my short wave
radio to listen to distant stations. As I scanned the frequencies,
I picked up a strong Morse code transmission that wasn't even near
an Amateur Radio band. I copied what I could, just out of curiosity:
Of the many ways to decipher the code, I used the dictionary
and began to translate:
He had an idea... He thought he was right.
If he had a ship... His future was bright.
Though the pirate problem gave him a fright,
The prospect of fame was a pure delight.
Then the transmission began to be hard to copy due to static:
...ormal park.....ap in pavillion raft....people in area....stealth...
Tired of translating, I fell sleep and when I awakened in the
morning, I found the radio hissing only static. I couldn't find the
signal again.
Since I live in a town named Normal, and we have several
park pavillions, I searched a few of them until I found an old
hand drawn map tucked up in a rafter. Some of it had been
eaten by squirrels or something, but the strange tables are
mostly readable. There may be a connection to the radio
signals but I need to postpone further investigation until after
I return from a trip out East.
