Geocache Description:

Cache is along Green Pond mountain in an area purchased by Morris County in 2005. Anybody with even a passing interest in geology will love this place. Surrounding the cache are a variety of boulders, many the size of an SUV, including some of the largest puddingstone boulders I've ever seen.

Though the cache is on county land, the most logical approach crosses Newark watershed land and a hiking permit is required (available just a few miles away at their office at 223 Echo Lake Road, Newfoundland - Open M-F 8-4 and Sat. from 9-noon (call ahead to learn about Covid-19 restricted hours)

Treequest, Skully & Mulder and several other finders discovered an approach from Notch Rd., that does not require a permit.

Snow, ice or slick conditions will make the area around the cache quite treacherous and adds a full star to the rating.

Note that this is true 4 star terrain. It is a short hike, but a highly challenging one. The area around the cache would be extremely difficult for dogs and younger children to negotiate. As always, you assume all risks when searching for any geocache.
