P: O sítio chamado Vila do Belo Horizonte na carta 234
da série M888 (1:25000) não é uma vila, é apenas uma quinta
abandonada, na abertura do vale glaciário da Alforfa. Este vale
está alinhado com o Vale de Manteigas (bem mais conhecido e
frequentado), mas desce a serra na direcção sul, até Unhais da
Serra. É um lugar extremamente isolado e calmo, apesar de, há
alguns anos, ter sido asfaltada uma estrada desde Unhais da
Serra.
A aproximação a esta cache pode ser feita de carro a partir desta
localidade. Para tal, devem, vindos da Covilhã, apanhar em Unhais
uma rua à direita, mesmo antes da ponte que atravessa a ribeira.
Devem seguir essa rua (que rapidamente sai da povoação atravessando
pinhais que, há não muito tempo, vestiam toda esta encosta da
Serra) durante perto de 9km. Parem o carro onde acaba a estrada
asfaltada. Estão em Vila do Belo Horizonte. A partir daí, é uma
subidita de 150m.
Outra possibilidade, muito mais divertida, é fazer a aproximação de
btt. Ou se faz a subida toda desde Unhais (ufa!), ou (ahhh!)
descemos a partir da Nave de Santo António, perto do Centro de
Limpeza de Neve. Como é sempre a descer durante cerca de 6km,
incluí na cache um par de calços de travões, podem vir a fazer
falta...
Para quem chora ecológicas lágrimas de crocodilo, esta é uma boa
cache para praticar (e alardear, claro) o Cache in, trash
out. Isto, porque aqui não há lixo nenhum! Para que as coisas
assim permaneçam, Leave no trace.
E: The place called Vila do Belo Horizonte in the map
number 234 of the M888 (1:25000) series (Port. Army Geographical
Institute) is not a village (wich is what you might think because
of the portuguese word vila), it is only an abandoned
farm, placed at the entrance of the narrowest part of the Vale da
Alforfa. This glaciary valley is aligned with the much better known
Vale de Manteigas, but it flows to the south, down to the small
town of Unhais da Serra. It is a very isolated and quiet place,
even if, some years ago, a paved road was built connecting Vila do
Belo Horizonte to Unhais da Serra.
The approach to this cache can be done by car, from Unhais. Driving
from Covilhã, you must take a street on your right, immediatly
before the bridge over the stream. You must follow that street
(wich rapidly leaves the town, crossing a small pine forest) for
something like 9km. Stop the car at the place where the paved road
ends. That's Vila do Belo Horizonte. From there, you just have to
climb the hill for something like 150m.
Another possibility, much more fun, is to go by bike. Either you
take the road from Unhais (steep way up most of the way) or else
come down the Valey of Alforfa from Nave de Santo António, close to
the Snow Road Cleaning Center. From this side it's going down all
the way (around 6km). Because they may come handy, I included in
the cache a set of bicycle breaks...
This is a very good place to practise Cache in, trash out
(better yet, to boast about it), because there is no garbage
around. To keep it that way, Leave no trace.
