Machiavelli's Exile - L'esilio di Machiavelli - Niccolò Machiavelli (1469 - 1527)
S. Andrea in Percussina (Florence) - ITALY - Niccolò Machiavelli, a Very Important Person of the Renaissance, was Secretary of the Florentine Republic from 1498 to 1512, he first considered the policy as a real science, indipendent from religion and morality, and is recognized as the founder of the modern policy.
When the Medici Family come back in Florence in 1512, Machiavelli was exiled and he retired in his house in S. Andrea in Percussina, near San Casciano. From his exile he wrote a lot of letters, in the one of december 10th, 1513, sent to Francesco Vettori, he describes his last day among the management of the farm and the hunting, and the evening at the tavern playing "tric-trac" with the host and the customers. But by night he retires in his rooms among the loved Classics, true food for his soul, from which he will take inspiration for his works. The house, called the "Albergaccio" and the tavern, now restored, are visitabile.
Niccolò Machiavelli, uno dei personaggi più importanti del Rinascimento, fu Segretario della Repubblica fiorentina dal 1498 al 1512, per primo considerò la politica come una scienza vera e propria, indipendente dalla religione e dalla morale ed è riconosciuto come il fondatore della politica moderna. Quando i Medici tornarono a Firenze nel 1512, Machiavelli fu esiliato e si ritirò nella sua casa di S. Andrea in Percussina, vicino a San Casciano. Dal suo esilio scrisse molte lettere, in una di esse, quella spedita a Francesco Vettori il 10 dicembre 1513, descrive la sua giornata passata fra la gestione della fattoria e la caccia e le serate all'osteria a giocare a "tric-trac" con l'oste e gli avventori. Di notte egli si ritira nelle sue stanze tra i libri degli amati autori classici, vero cibo per la sua anima, dai quali trarrà l'ispirazione per le sue opere.
La casa, detta "L'Albergaccio" restaurata, è visitabile, come pure l'osteria.
