Geocache Description:

This is an offset cache starting from the Chattri, a memorial on the downs over Brighton to the Indian soldiers who gave their lives for this country during World War 1.

The cache can be approached from several directions using public bridle and footpaths all the way. The closest parking is a layby alongside the access road to Lower Standean from the A27 (the Brighton by-pass) at N 50° 52.200 W 000° 09.050 from which it is around 1 mile to the cache. Alternatively, there is a free car park at the Jack & Jill windmills (N 50° 54.320 W 000° 08.910) which is just under 1.5 miles from the cache.

The co-ordinates will lead you to the entrance to the Chattri enclosure. Just walk to the memorial to see all you need to complete the cache location co-ordinates which are:

N 50° 53.ABC W 000° 08.CAB

Where:

A is the number of gateways into the memorial enclosure.

B is the number of benches at the bottom of the steps leading up to the memorial.

C is the number of columns supporting the roof of the memorial minus 2.

The cache is hidden about 0.25 miles from the Chattri and is a 2 litre foodbox. It contains the logbook and the usual selection of goodies for swapping.

The Chattri and the cache are within a mile of the South Downs Way and can therefore form part of a variety of circular walks including Jack & Jill windmills and Ditchling Beacon.
