Geocache Description:

This is the third in the Bute Geology Geocache series and it’s hidden close to a sandstone outcrop.

Hawk’s Neb

Bute is divided by the Highland Boundary Fault. North Bute is in the Highlands, South Bute is in the Lowlands.

The geology is significantly different here than that in the north of the island. While the north presents hard metamorphosed folded schist, Old Red Sandstone is the predominant rock in the south.

The Hawk’s Neb is a spectacular undercut cliff of Old Red Sandsone

The cache is a small plastic box. Easy to find. Just watch you don’t get caught by muggles!
