Geocache Description:

Esbjerg bakkeø

Welcome to the north western part of Esbjerg hill island. Here you shall look for a small transparent plastic container approximately 10 by 15 by 5 cm placed under some heather.

Esbjerg hill island, along with several others, consists of deposits from the Saale ice age which was the second latest ice ages some 140.000 years ago. The Saale ice age covered the Danish isles and presumably most of Jutland with deposits from the Baltic Sea. Later towards the end of the Weichsel ice age, which was the latest ice age, melting water from the main ice stagnation line flowed through the lower laying parts of the settlements from the Saale ice age and hereby created six major hill islands.

From the north western part of Esbjerg bakkeø you have a fantastic view over the mouth of Varde Å, Ho Bugt and the south western part of Ølgod hill island. When the visibility is good you can see the town of Varde towards north east 12 km away.
