Geocache Description:

This is another cache placed along the Backbone Trail. It is very convenient for hikers, bikers, and equestrians, being located at a viewpoint along the Mesa Peak Fire Road.

The cache is named for the junction of the Mesa Peak Fire Road and the Puerco Canyon Road. From the Backbone Trailhead at Malibu Canyon Road, it is 2.5 miles with 1525 feet of cumulative altitude gain. The return to Malibu Canyon Road involves only 60 feet of cumulative altitude gain. Approaching from the other direction, the trailhead is at the end of Corral Canyon Road. The distance to the cache is 2.9 miles with a cumulative altitude gain of a little over 600 feet. The return trip to Corral Canyon Road involves just over 650 feet of cumulative altitude gain.

The cache container is a large ammo can.

Update 3/30/08. The cache has not moved, but the earth has. The inside of the cache is accessable and in good shape. The can is deformed and the lid cannot be locked down. The good news is that no muggle can take the ammo can.
