memorial has now actually been moved north of here in the
Lighthouse County Park.
Still here is a makeshift memorial.
1st Lt.
Michael W. Young
was
killed Nov. 30, 1991. after the A-7 fighter jet he piloted went
down in Lake Huron near Huron City. Young, 29 of Petersburg,
Ohio,
was a pilot with the 180th Technical Fighter Group Air national
Guard when he was killed. He was reportedly able to parachute
into
the 38 degree water. The crash that killed young was the second
fighter jet to go down less than a year in Huron County. On
Jan.
26, 1991 a fighter jet crashed in a farm field in fairhaven
township.
