Tom's Odyssey Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Tom's Brother: I've had a rethink on this cache and am sorry to say, for a number of reasons, I've decided to archive it.

The heather around the cache area has been trampled somewhat and my idea of moving it further across the hill, could mean that it will get even more trampled. Add to that the fact that 3 Travel Bugs have gone missing over the last couple of years, indicating that the cache may have been compromised - and then someone steals the Cache itself - tells me that the cache has reached its use by date.

Thank you cachers for all your kind words and compliments over the last 12 years. It has certainly been my favourite cache of all the ones I have hidden.

Geocache Description:

The nearest car parking is at Sandy Road which bounds the area on 2 sides and can give you anywhere from a .25 mile to a 1 mile round trip depending on where on the road you park.

This Cache has been placed by my Brother, Bernard, and I. It is named for our brother, Tom, who died in 2000. He loved this area and we have happy memories of walking here with him.

There are three conical hills known as the Devil’s Jumps nearby. Legend has it that the devil leapt from hill to hill when fleeing from Old Mother Ludlam at Waverley and came to rest on nearby Kettlebury Hill at Hankley Common, before disappearing into the Devil's Punch Bowl in Hindhead.

The cache itself is a small ammo box with enough room for around 6 medium sized gifts.
