Una fortezza sin dai tempi dei romani, Bellinzona si trova in una
posizione importante a guardia dei passi alpini più importanti come
il Novena, il Gottardo, il Lucomagno e il San Bernardino.
Il "Castello di Montebello", chiamato anche "Castello di Mezzo", è
stato costruito alla fine del XIII secolo dalla famiglia Rusconi di
Como su richiesta dell'alleata famiglia Visconti di Milano che
all'epoca dominava anche la città di Bellinzona.
Il castello ha una struttura classica, con il centro dove
risiedeva il proprietario del castello e pochi lavoratori ed una
chiesetta. Il tutto era circondato da una cinta di mura
fortificate. Intorno a queste era poi stata costruita una seconda
cinta fortificata che era connessa agli altri due castelli (più in
alto il "Castello di Sasso Corbaro e all'interno dell'attuale città
il "Castel Grande").
All'inizio del XX secolo la città di Bellinzona ha iniziato a
restaurare tutti i castelli per averli come simbolo della città e
nel 2000 l'UNESCO li ha inclusi nella lista del "World
Heritage".
Per questo motivo vi suggeriamo di non limitarvi a visitare questo
castello, ma di dedicare del tempo anche agli altri due... meritano
veramente una visita! Se siete fortunati come lo siamo stati noi,
la splendida e limpida giornata vi permetterà di avere una
fantastica vista di tutta la zona.
Il cache originale è un piccolo
contenitore di plastica, con un tappo giallo, da non confondere
con un altro cache di un altro gioco che è stato nascosto
dopo nelle immediate vicinanze. Abbiamo impostato il
valore di difficoltà a 3 poichè il segnale del nostro GPS era
estremamente basso in quel punto (migliore chiamata con 13mt di
errore). La cosa è strana considerando la splendida giornata e che
in tutto il resto del castello il segnale è perfetto (5mt di
errore).
In rispetto a tutti i
geocacher, vi chiediamo la cortesia di lasciare i vostri log anche
in lingua inglese per permettere a tutti di capire quello che
scrivete. Questo è fondamentale se volete comunicare con me
per informazioni o note sul cache, altrimenti queste non potranno
che essere ignorate.

A fortress since Roman times, Bellinzona occupies a prime
valley-floor position, holding the keys to the great Alpine passes
of the Novena, Gottardo), Lucomagno and San Bernadino.
The "Montebello Castle", also known as "Castello di mezzo", has
been built at the end of the 13th century by the Rusconi family of
Como on request of their allies, the Visconti Family of Milan, that
was also dominating the city of Bellinzona.
This castle has a classical structure, with the center buildings
where the owner of the castle and few other workers were living and
the small church were surrounded by a first set of high and
fortificated walls. Then around that there was a second set of
fortificated walls, that were connected with the two other castles
("Castello di Sasso Corbaro" on the top, and "Castel Grande" inside
the actual city).
At the beginning of the XX century the city of Bellinzona has
restarted to renew all the castles to have them as a symbol of the
city and in 2000 the UNESCO has selected them to be part of the
World Heritage.
For this reason, we strongly suggest you to visit not just this
castle but also the other two, because they are really worth a
visit. If you are as lucky as we were, and you get a clear day, you
will have great views of the entire area.
The cache is a small plastic
tupperware with a yellow top that should not be mixed with
another cache of another game that has been hidden very close to
this one after this one. We set the difficoult level to
3 because the signal of our GPS where we hide the cache was very
very weak, with more than 13mt. error (at the best shot). That was
pretty strange, considering that the sky was perfectly clear and
the sunny day was great. All around the castle the signal was
perfect with no more than 5mt of accuracy error.
As a sign of respect to all
geocachers worldwide, we please you to write your logs also in
english, to allow everyone to be able to understand what you write.
This is extremely important if you need to communicate woth
me for any further information or notes about the cache, otherwise
I will be forced to ignore them.
