In 1973 prominent archaeologist, Edward Lenik found Indian petroglyphs (carvings) on this rock formation. They are estimated to be between several hundred and a thousand years old.
The carvings are reportedly on the south face. One is reportedly of a 4 legged animal, possibly a mountain lion. It is said to be 10 inches long. Another, larger drawing is said to be a circle with an L shape in the center and an X below it, thought to represent a head and body. There are also carvings of more recent vintage, including one by some bozo with the initials MM.
I say "reportedly" and "said to be", because I've visited this place several times over the past 10 years and really can't make anything out. I THINK I might see something, but I'm not sure if its there, or its my imagination. Whether you can see the petroglyphs or not, this is a truly interesting rock formation and the kids will love it.
This is a difficulty three cache which, by definition, can take some time to find. Multiple trips could be necessary.
Please re-hide the cache well, because judging from the toys laying around and ropes hanging from trees, this rock formation is used by local kids as a playground.
