An ancient agricultiral landscape
En av de platser som Linné besökte på sin skånska resa 1749 var Lärkesholm, Örkelljunga sockens enda adelsgods. Det tillhörde översten vid Kronobergs regemente, baron Berndt Wilhelm von Liewen. Han var tydligen en uppfinningsrik och företagsam person som på olika sätt försökte öka de magra markernas avkastning. Linné var mäkta imponerad av friherren vilket följande citat visar: "Baron Liewen var en herre, som utan studier, igenom ett makalöst snille, själv inventerat ganska många och nyttiga saker för ekonomien". Sedan följer en drygt 14 sidor lång redogörelse för allt märkligt som Linné såg på Lärkesholm.
Sydöst om Lärkeholmssjön ligger ett av Skånes bäst bevarade fossila åkersystem. Det började odlas någon gång under järnåldern. Numera är det skog och betesmark. Intill det området ligger cachen. Parkering finns intill vägen vid östra änden av sjön. På väg till området passerar du Vångamöllan, godsets kvarn. Den används inte längre och byggnaderna håller på att försvinna bland träden. Intill möllan finns en tavla med översiktlig information om åkersystemet vid N56°16.986' E013°23.467'. Flera tavlor med detaljinformation finns inom området. Ta med matsäck, gå runt i området, sätt dig och fika och föreställ dig hur folk för kanske 2000 år sedan slet med att röja sten ur åkrarna.
One of the places visited by Carl von Linné on his journey through Skåne in 1749 was Lärkesholm, the only estate in the parish Örkelljunga. The owner was Baron Berndt Wilhelm von Liewen, colonel at the regiment of Kronoberg. He was obviously an inventive and entrepreneurial man who tried in many ways to increase the yield of the poor soil. Linné was highly impressed by the baron, as this quote shows: "Baron Liewen was a gentleman, who without education, through a peerless genious, himself had invented quite many and useful things for the economy". Then follows a 14 pages long account of all the remarkable things Linné saw at Lärkeholm.
South-east of the lake Lärkesholmssjön lies one of the best preserved fossil agricultural landscapes in Skåne. It was taken into cultivation during the iron age. Nowadays the area is partly forest, partly pasture. The cache is placed close to the area. There's a parking by the public road at the eastern end of the lake. En route to the area you will pass Vångamöllan, the mill of the estate. It's disused and the buildings are about to vanish in the wood. Close to the mill there is an information board about the area at N56°16.986' E013°23.467'. There are more boards giving detailed information within the area. Bring a picnic basket, walk around in the area and sit down to relax and imagine how people maybe 2000 years ago toiled with clearing fields from stones.
