Quarry Cache Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Mr. 0: I had a free moment this evening so I stopped up to see if maybe the terrain had changed. Everything mostly looks the same, however the area around the cache is completely covered in poison ivy. The only way to get to the container is to crawl through a bush of it. I also noticed that the area has become much more of a party spot that it used to be.

I'm going to give this one up. It was my oldest active, favorite hide, and most favorited cache, but given the poison ivy, graffiti, clothing, alcohol containers, and drug paraphernalia near the cache or along the path, it's no longer a place I wish to draw people to.

The container may or may not still be there (it's like Schrodinger's Geocache). I couldn't get close enough to spot it. I'll stop out in the winter once the PI dies back and remove anything that may be there.

Thanks to everyone who stopped out, and congratulations to the many who chose this location to celebrate various milestones.

Geocache Description:

A relatively small, camouflaged Lock-n-Lock.

This has always been one of my favorite areas, and I recently found out that it was purchased by the city and turned into a park a little while back. When I was younger I used to paintball, and mountain bike back through here. At that time we had "blind eye" permission to be there. When I started caching this was one of the first areas I thought about placing a cache, but the private property issue stopped me. So I was thrilled to find out it's now a public park. Ok, enough babbling.

As of April 2013, the park has recently seen some changes. Namely the demolition of the old furnaces, and clearing of trees and brush. Because of this, there is currently a pile of brush that blocks the main trail to the cache. There is a secondary trail that leads to it, so it's still active, but it doesn't have the same "interestingness" in my opinion.

Park at the eastern parking area, then take the paved trail south. Continue down the path after the pavement ends. There is a maze of trails through there, so I'm not sure of the best route necessarily.

If you wish to check out the trail that originally lead to the cache, continue north and east from the cache. There are some nice views, and a few crevasses to cross.
Please be sure to hide the cache as you found it. Even though it can be a rough hike there's evidence that people do come out here with some frequency.
