Geocache Description:

This multi-cache is hidden in the Hennepin Canal Parkway, in and around the Lock 30 Day Use Area.

This geocache is placed on Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) managed property as well as Milan, Illinois property with permission. Do not place the following items in the Geocache sites: Food items, inappropriate, offensive, or hazardous materials. It is the visitors responsibility to orient themselves with policies and rules pertaining to this Department managed site.

This portion of the Hennepin Canal is accessed from Airport Road between Milan and the Quad Cities International Airport. Traffic from I-280 can exit at mile 15 onto Airport Road and go west to 14th street, the first road north. Turn north onto the frontage road from Airport Road, and follow the signs directing you to MILAN SURPLUS on 14th Street. Continue past the surplus business to the parking area at N41° 27.591, W90° 32.854. This cache is also accessible from Milan on foot or by bicycle using a hard surface recreation path. The cache can be completed on bicycle. I recommend a fat tire or mountain bike once you leave the recreational path.

The final cache is an ammunition box with log book and a few items to trade. Please take care to replace the final cache and all stages exactly as they were found, making sure no parts are visible to a passing observer. This is a popular fishing area, with access to nearby Rock River.

This cache is designed to be both challenging and educational. I have included a brief history of the Hennepin Canal to help you understand the nature of the canal better. This history can be viewed online and/or printed for reading. I recommend you do one or both. The history is in .jpg format.

I hope you enjoy your visit to a smaller section of the Hennepin Canal Parkway. You may now begin.
