Siegessäule/Victory Column

German. Zum Cache: ROTE Filmdose nahe der Siegessäule, abseits von den Menschenmengen. Die Farbe der Dose tut an sich nichts zur Sache, aber wenn die Dose nicht rot ist, ist es die FALSCHE! Viel Spaß!

English. About the cache: RED film canister near the Siegessäule, at a not-so-crowded place. In principle, the colour is of no relevance, but if the can isn't red, it's the WRONG one! Look for a group of trees... Have fun!

Zur Historie soll hier nicht allzu viel gesagt werden, denn die Siegessäule ist und war ein beliebtes Objekt einiger Mystery-Caches, und es soll hier nichts preisgegeben werden, was anderswo ermittelt werden soll. Nur so viel: sie wurde aufgestellt, aufgestockt und umgesetzt, restauriert, beleuchtet und ist auch unter dem Namen "Goldelse" bekannt. Übrigens eines der wenigen Berliner Wahrzeichen, das von den Einheimischen auch tatsächlich von Zeit zu Zeit mit seinem Spitznamen bezeichnet wird, während niemand im Alltag jemals von der "schwangeren Auster" oder dem "hohlen Zahn" spricht, egal, was in den Reiseführern steht :-)
English. I won't tell you too much about the history here, because this monument is and was a popular object of some mystery caches and I won't give away too much information that should be obtained elsewhere. Only this much: it was installed, heightened and relocated, restored, illuminated and is also known as "Goldelse" (meaning something like "Golden Lizzy"). Other than with some of the other famous Berlin landmarks, this nickname is really used by the Berlin natives from time to time while no one ever refers to the "pregnant oyster" or the "hollow tooth", no matter what you read in the tourist guides.

Cache location 1950. Well, obviously there wasn't any cache to find there at that time. The reason being probably that there weren't so many trees to hide them in ;-)
