Rogers Lake is named after an early settler that had a cabin near the lake. The current cabin was built in 1989 by a "Sentenced to Serve" crew supervised by Bob Wait, hence the name of the cabin, "Wait Station". The logs were from the local pine and other building materials were donated by the MN DNR and the Ditch Bank Ski Club of Cromwell.
The area is forested with jack pine planted by the DNR in 1956. Kenneth and Blanche Kingsley had cleared the land before that when they moved here in 1931. The Kinsley’s farmed here until 1940 when they moved to a farm south of Cromwell.
There are four parking locations to gain access to the logging roads, snowmobile trails and ski trails. All of these are on the Ditchbanks Road. One is at the Gravel Pit (Blue sign 4490) N 46º 43.929 W 092º 46.011, another is on the Rogers Lake Road at N 46º 43.933 W 092º 47.871, a third is at the Ski Trail Head at N 46º 43.512 W 092º 49.762, and last from the Skunk Island Lookout Tower at N 46º 42.476 W 092º 49.984. Pick one and enjoy.
Some notes to make your trip more enjoyable. Bring Insect Repellant between March and November. MARK YOUR CAR because of the multiple paths possible to gain access to the cache. I would recommend against bushwhacking, this place is a series of ridges in between swamps. The trip is anywhere from 1½ miles long (one way) to 3 miles depending on where you park. Also, the Minnesota DNR has maps showing the area; ask for the Fond Du Lac State Forest map. The Cloquet MN DNR office has them on hand or write to the MN DNR, the maps are free.
There are two other caches in this area, S in the Road and Ditch Bank 1.
