On Thanksgiving Day in 1923, a group of oil speculators known as
the Lucky Seven Oil Co. struck “black gold” on the Oswald farm,
northwest of Russell near the town of Fairport. The well was dubbed
the Carrie Oswald No. 1 and soon was generating $10,000 in revenue
a month. This well sparked an oil boom in Russell.
At the cache site you will find a monument and the original
well.
The Cache container is a cammo-painted ammobox containing
geosheet, logbook, pen and pencil and various trading item.
David (KC0NIR) passed away on 12-07-05
after a long fight with cancer. He started Geocaching during his
Chemo theraphy and enjoyed it. I am keeping this geocache active as
a Memorial to him.
