A single offset multicache.
There are a lot of caches on hills in the ACT. Some of them are very high! In fact, it’s not possible to plant one any higher than has already been achieved in the ACT! I decided that I wanted to achieve an altitude record also… This cache is now officially the LOWEST cache in mainland ACT. No climbing up hills needed to get this one! At around 440m, this is as low as you can get! (Almost 1500m lower than the highest point in the ACT).
This cache is near where the Murrumbidgee River leaves the ACT. This area was not too badly affected by fires, and there is fair bit of green about! If you approach this cache the way I did, then you can expect everything from sandy beaches to rocky beaches, to mini woods and scrub. I found it reminiscent of how the Murrumbidgee used to be. Lots of pines, plenty of water birds, some kangaroos, wombats and plenty of fresh air (except possibly at the start). One thing there’s hardly any of, is thorns, spikes and black trees that leave marks on your clothes. (That reduces the terrain rating by at least one star!).
Warnings: There are cliffs near the start - it should be safe for Geokiddies, but keep an eye on them! This cache may be extremely difficult if the river is in flood! Finally – do not attempt to walk directly from the Start to the Finish! (Take a detour). At the Start, look North-West to see the location of the cache – most spectacular in the morning or evening!
OK enough of the pleasantries. Here’s how to find the end location. At the Start, you will find a platform with a steel fence. The following refer to this fence:
A = total number of fence posts - 1.
B = number of bolts holding the 2nd fence post to the platform x 2.
C = number of thin railings between the 3rd and 4th fence posts.
DE = C + 8
checksum A+B+C+D+E = 31
Final location is: 35º13.ADB, 148º57.CEC (Less than 2km from the start).
