Geocache Description:

An easy walk by the canal.

This is one of three caches I have placed along the Trent and Mersey canal on the outskirts of Derby. The canal runs from Runcorn in Cheshire to the River Trent in Derbyshire, and is part of the national canal network. On Autoroute it is called the Grand Trunk Canal.Although this part of the canal is in places very close to both the A50 and the main Derby to Birmingham railway line, the walk is still pleasant with lots of varied birdsong to listen to. There are several places you could park to find these caches, the village of Willington is less than 3 miles from the farthest cache and there is a parking area by the canal, while the Bubble Inn at Stenson Lock is central for all three. There are also small lay-bys off the smaller lanes quite close to all the caches.Wherever you park I hope you enjoy the walk. The cache is a tupperware box in a green bin liner. The box contains the usual stuff along with some Rolls-Royce Centenary items. Careful with the frisbee! It was in 1904 that Rolls and Royce got together in Manchester. In 1908 they moved to Derby. There are a series of events this year to commemorate this historic occasion, see www.rolls-royce.com.Don't be surprised when a train passes, the line is very close here. By the summer, the nettles may make this difficult for those in shorts!
