Geocache Description:

Most people think of Shropshire as a peaceful and quiet County but in WW2 this was far from the truth. Church Stretton and Craven Arms were major munitions storage dumps and the Long Mynd had great strategic importance and some strange secret sites. This is the third in a series of 4 caches on and around the Long Mynd put out to commemorate the 60th anniversary of VE day. All have a WW2 connection but what is it? You will have to visit the cache to find out.

I have given all the car park locations as grid references and I suggest that you buy a map of the area (OS explorer 1:25,000 sheet 217 is the best) and plot them and the cache locations and chose a route before you start.  The series can easily be done in a day and a nice place to start is from the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms

Please be careful on the series, the roads up to the top of the Long Mynd and down the other side are steep, single track and unguarded.  DRIVE CAREFULLY.   The caches all involve some rough and sometimes steep walking

The 4 caches are:

The cache is situated close to Pole cottage on the top of the Long Mynd. It is only a short walk from the car park at grid SO 413 397. Please note you do not have to cross any fences to get to it. The ammo box is not hidden at all and when you get past the defences it will be in plain view.  However it is well defended - like an ancient fort and you will need special equipment to get to it. The things that I used have been left just after a tree called Jim (please note - I did not do this carving) or you could bring your own. Lastly if you take children please watch out for them – they (or you – look at some of the pics) may get wet.

And PLEASE PLEASE - dismantle any thing that you may need and put the special equipment back where you found it.
