The posted coordinates will lead you to the entrance of the
Wachovia Scouting Center, which is the local Boy Scouts of America
Council Office. The Old Hickory Council serves the scouts and
scouters of the Northwest Piedmont including Stokes, Surry,
Allegheny, Ashe, Watauga, Wilkes, Yadkin, and Forsyth counties.
You will not need to enter the building to answer the following
questions, but feel free to go in and check out the Winston-Salem
Scout Shop located inside. This cache will test to see if you are
keeping yourself physically strong, mentally awake, and most of all
to see if you’re living the Scout Motto. Be Prepared!!
Here are the coordinates you will need to fill in N 36° _ _ . _
_ _ W 80° _ _ . _ _ _
To get the first two numbers of the N coordinate: Locate the
Statue! The figure in the statue is holding a hatchet in one hand
and his hat in the other. If the hat is in his right hand put a 0
in the first blank. If the hat is in the left hand put a 1 in the
first blank. If the hatchet is in the right hand put a 6 in the
second blank. If the hatchet is in the left hand put a 7 in the
second blank.
To get the first two numbers of the W coordinate: Locate the
Honor Tree in the yard! How many years was this individual Scout
Executive? Put this two-digit number in the first two blanks of the
W coordinate.
Now to see if you are mentally awake! To get the last 3 numbers
of the N coordinate you will need to answer the following questions
and then arrange the numbers in the correct order. Locate the
plaque at the base of the statue! How many people was this
dedicated to? What month was this dedicated in number format? What
is the last digit in the year this was dedicated? That’s the last 3
numbers for the N coordinate. Now you will need to arrange these 3
numbers in the correct order!
To get the last 3 numbers of the W coordinate you will need to
also answer questions and arrange the numbers correctly. Locate the
doors to the entrance. How many hatchets are located here? How many
fleur-de-lis are located here? Add the number of flag poles located
near the statue to the number of stone columns along the walkway to
the entrance. That’s the last 3 numbers for the W coordinate. Now
you will also need to arrange these 3 numbers in the correct
order.
You may have to try several possibilities in order to determine
the correct one! Good Luck! Please obey all parking regulations and
follow the Scout Motto!
The final cache is a 2-quart tupperware container with an
assortment of small camping items, a logbook, ink pen, and 5
collector cards for the first 5 finders. There is also a patch for
the first finder.
CAUTION:
The cache is hidden in the Woods, so Be Prepared to encounter all
the things that you would expect to find in the woods. Poison ivy,
snakes, ticks, spiders, spider webs, chiggers, bees, briars,
squirrels, birds, deer, lions and tigers and bears oh my, and some
