Number Six in a series of caches placed while traversing the George Washington National Forest area..If you followed #1 and #2, we told you they would get harder!. If you've done #3, and #4 you now know what we're going to put you through :-) The George Washington National Forest is a great wilderness area on the West side of VA, and is an outdoor person's paradise. Easily traveled, there are some areas that are accessible ONLY by 4X4. We're now six caches into this series with a couple of easy ones for #1 and #2, and we raised the bar higher for #3 and #4 and #5. This one is placed in GWNF's Taskers Gap ORV area and we decided to go a bit easier on everyone for this one. While it's a challenging "drive up" for a decently equipped 4x4 (with good ground clearance!) it's also doable from one of the gravel forest roads. You'll just have to hike a bit! Take a few minutes while you're here to enjoy the hike to the tower from the top of the mountain.. the view of the Shenandoah Valley is fantastic!
** NOTE:***
Although the trail going up from the Peters Mill ORV trail is blazed at the junction meaning vehicle access, it appears that the rangers are not allowing vehicle traffic up the powerline cut. It is however allowed to foot traffic so the approach would require a uphill or downhill hike from the FR above, or the OHV trail below. Parking may be the difficult part. At worst case parking is available at the OHV staging area at the north end of the OHV trail.
