Unless you know the trails in this area, I strongly recommend
heading for the "start of single-track" waypoint first. This takes
you to a critical turn off where the climbing fun starts. The trail
is rough, steep, and unmaintained, so good shoes/boots are
recommended, plus water. You will reach a trail along the top of a
ridge. At the top, a left turn takes you to
Thoughful Spot and a famous tree which is visible from the
lowlands. A right takes you toward Cahuenga Peak and
Ooper's Cache, and then on to the Hollywood Sign. You need to
take a ridge trail before reaching Cahuenga Peak. (While the
chaparral regrows after the March 30, 2007 fire, there's no
impediment to taking a direct line, but try to find the trail
anyway to avoid disturbing the soil exposed by the fire.)
An alternate
route is described on the original hider's web site. Still
other alternate approaches are in the description for
Ooper's Cache.
(The location is less obscure since the Barham fire of March 30,
2007. Eventually the chaparral will regrow. The cache was moved
about 80' to the current coordinates due to the original hide being
exposed by the fire.)
