The Weeping Willow Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

PlanetEarth: Yesterday I checked the cache and the situation around:

a) The cache was very easy to reach. Not a single fence to climb over, no steep pathes... (We used a map (was recommended in the cache description) and followed the tarmac road to N 48° 02.864´ E 016° 01.201´ and for the last 100 m, we went down a path over grassland to the Cache.) Terrain rating: max. 2 - 2.5 stars...

b) The hiding place is definitely inside a water protection area. All roads and pathes leading to it have a sign "Water protection area, entry forbidden". In my opinion this doesn't make sense because there are lots of cows on the meadows around, we saw an empty petrol can inside the area and a guide book from the local authority mentiones the old tree as a special sight. However, I have to accept this...

c) The cache itself was in good condition.

According to b) I decided to archive this cache.

Thx to all who searched for the cache.

Happy caching, PlanetEarth & Team

Geocache Description:

The Cache is located within magical places southwest of Vienna.

There are lots of mystic places and objects around. Take your time and visit some of them. My favourite one is
"The Weeping Willow", which is about 600 years old.

You can reach the cache area by public transport. Take the train from Südbahnhof platform three and a half. Those coming by car can park at Dörfl near Hafnerberg.

The trail is most of it`s length a gravel walk. For the last part before the cache you have to leave the way. No special equipment is needed, a map is useful. Broomsticks are not recommended. Length: 5 km (roundtrip), Difference in height: 100 m.

NB: The above difficulty and terrain rating was done with the program from geocaching.com. To be internationally comparable I´m using this result. (See the discussion in the forum also.) My personal opinion is a rating of 3 stars for difficulty and 3 stars for terrain.

Details about the area can be found at:
http://www.altenmarkt.co.at/Geschichte/Mystisches/Information.htm (in german).

Stage 1: The ruin
N1 = 48° x1´ where x1 = 02.154
E1 = 16° y1´ where y1 = 01.417
At the given coordinates you will find a marble tablet with a date at which this building was desecrated. Call this 4-digit year ABCD.

Stage 2: The Weeping Willow (Cache)
N2 = 48° x2´ where x2 = x1 + (B * C * 13 + B + C) / 1000
E2 = 16° y2´ where y2 = y1 - (A * C * D + C * C + 2) / 1000

The cache is hidden in the tree area.

The cache initially contains:
  • cachenote (please don´t remove)
  • logbook (please don´t remove)
  • pencil (please don´t remove)
  • magic crystal
  • magic dice
  • magic nut
Happy caching, PlanetEarth
