The Church of All Saints at Segenhoe was originally built in the 11th century close to the ancient homestead of Segenhoe. The building was modified over the centuries and incorporates architecture from the 11th, 14th, 15th and 19th century. It includes a range of building materials such as brown cobbles in the oldest part, sandstone from the Greensand Ridge, red handmade bricks from the Georgian restoration and dressings of Bath stone.
The mix of architecture is shown well with the round arches of the windows and door in contrast with the 11th century plain arch with zigzag carving.
The church was declared redundant, due to structural problems, and a new church was built in the nearby village of Ridgmont, leaving the old church to fall steadily into disrepair. At one point it was threatened with demolition but a campaign by the Ampthill & District Archaeological & Local History Society in 1981 was largely responsible for ensuring that Segenhoe Church was kept as an ancient monument. The church was finally bought by Bedfordshire County Council in 1982

PLEASE NOTE: As part of the graveyard is still being used (and to make things at bit easier for you!) ALL of the clues for the final location of the cache are located in and around the older main section of the church. Avoid the newer graves on the right as you go through the main gate from the road.
The curse of John Nursall: From the last few logs posted it looks as if there may be some problem finding poor old John. We can assure you he is still there and hasn't up'd and left!! To help out future finders we've added a simple clue to point you in the general area of his location.
