This cache is placed in a section of a Cook County forest
preserve that literally gets no use. Probably because there is no
parking anywhere near, and it is so overgrown with no discernable
trails. It can only be entered from the east at Sanders Road (which
has no parking), because to the south and west is the tollway and
on the north it is bounded by private property and a drainage
creek. Don’t try to follow the tollway, there is a fence there for
your safety which should not be crossed.
There is not much unique nature to appreciate in this area. We
did not see much wildlife, other than birds, squirrels, and 2 small
(really orange) red foxes. The only game trails were very small and
low to the ground due to the heavy brush growth. Don’t think deer
or large animals could make it in here. Extreme bushwhacking will
probably be needed. There are thorns, burrs, sticker weeds, and
every other kind of nuisance plant here. Long pants, long sleeves,
and even gloves are recommended. The upside (if you consider it up)
is that you will be exploring an area that few people will venture
into. There are a few artifacts (trash) from the past, but they are
probably older than any cacher attempting this one. It is really a
challenging hike. Leave the youngsters home on this one, they won't
enjoy it.
The tree cover is heavy and much of the woods have thick
undergrowth. Getting a signal might be tough, but not impossible,
there are clearings around. Also, we are not sure how bad the
mosquitoes are in the summer, so this is a perfect fall or winter
hunt. To make it worth your while we have also placed another cache
in the same area, see “No Parking Here 4”.
Because finding parking is part of the difficulty of this cache,
we’ve added an extra half star to the difficulty level. Although,
the parking might be easier than the terrain! If you find an easy
way in, or some sort of trail, please let us know. Everything we
came across was a dead end.
Inside the container is a log sheet and a few small goodies;
please bring your own pencil/pen to sign it because pencils
in the cache always poke through the plastic bag which is
critically important in preserving the log. Please close the cache
and replace as found. Let us know if the terrain rating is
appropriate and we will adjust it. Enjoy your hunt!
