Out in the middle of the desert you'll find dry stream beds with pools of clear cool water. This one is a scenic wonder.

You will need four-wheel vehicle or just not care about the rental car you are driving because there are places that will either put you in a deep cut next to the road, tear off your oil pan, or bottom out most sedans if you don't.
It's about a 45 minute to an hour depending on if you stop to see some of the sites enroute. You'll pass a grave site next to the road and also pass Ernst Tinaja.
Big Bend has had 24 inches of rain this year when normal rainfall is 12 so the tinajas are full of water in the pools. Skinny dipping is great in the heat of the day in the pools that are really quite cool.
