Geocache Description:

Ceci est l'endroit où les premiers Grecs seraient arrivés à Cargèse.
This is the area where the Greek are believed to have arrived for the first time in Cargèse.

Un peu d'histoire: il s'agit d'une représentation d'une galère grecque ayant accosté en 1676. Ces premiers réfugiés grecs se sont installés à Paomia sous la protection des Gênois alors maîtres de la Corse.
C'est avec les fonds de la municipalité et l'argent collecté par une souscription publique que cette galère de granite a été commandée en Sardaigne et inaugurée l'année du tricentenaire de cette première arrivée des réfugiés grecs soit en 1976! Ces premiers grecs ont fui 37 ans plus tard par la pointe d'Omigna vers Ajaccio. Les Corses de Renno et Vico leur rendant la vie impossible. Ce n'est que lorsque la Corse sera sous domination de la France que Cargèse sera créé pour les Grecs.
A little background: it is a representation of a Greek boat supposed to have arrived in 1676. These first Greek refugees settled in the village of Paomia under protection of the people from Genova who ruled Corsica at that time.
This granite boat was build in Sardine with funds of the municipality and money collected by the public and presented during the tricentenal of the first arrival of Greek refugees, i.e., in 1976! These first Greek fled to the " punta d'Omigna" 37 years later, direction Ajaccio. Corsican from Renno and Vico made their lives impossible. Only when France ruled Corsica, the village of Cargèse was built especially for the Greek.

La cache constitue d’une boîte de pélicule avec quelques pièces de monnaie, un tout petit crayon (si possible, emmenez votre propre stylo ou crayon) et un journal. The cache consists of a film canister with a few coins, a very small pencil (if possible, bring you own pen or pencil) and a log journal. If the journal is full, please mention it on the Internet site, so the next visitor can replace it. Some devices show other coordinates: N42 07.443 E008 38.126

Note on cache maintenance: My mother and father in law are living nearby this cache on Corse (in the village Cargese). Further on we visit Corse once or twice a year.
