This is a Virtual cache of an interpretive sign. There was a fire in this location in 1919. One night 2 fire fighters and there pack mules, a Nez Perce Indian and his grandson, several deer, and a bear cub spent the night on an island to avoid a forest fire that eventually burned 122,000 acres. The Island is no longer there but it is a beautiful drive along the river. To Log this cache email me the names of the two fire fighters. Hopefully the coordinates are right, gps reception wasn't all that good, if not please let me know, the sign is on the right side of the road in a pull out.
