This cache is a short way off the highway, about a quarter of a mile.
The area used to be a huge granite mountain, but years ago the railway blasted it down and crushed it up for ballast for use on the railway tracks. The crushed granite from here was enough to cover half-way across Canada and down into the U.S. Midwest. Now it is nearly a flat area with lots of crusher chips around and little growth.
The container is a 9 X 9 X 14 inches high old plastic wash soap container. It is painted black to match the colours of the rock in the area. It can only be seen looking in an easternly direction. The following is a list of the original contents...
1. A welcome cache finder letter in a zip locked bag.
2. Disposable flash camera in a zip locked bag. Please take a self-portrait or a shot of a companion!
3. Note book and pencil to record your visit.
4. Hand warmers.
5. Pen in gold cardboard box.
6. A roll of Duct tape.
7. Chunk of bark from a California Redwood tree.
8. Blue and white balloons from our Centennial Celebration.
9. Parker pen refill ( black ink)
10. One indelible Veritas pencil.
11. Small "blind spot" mirror.
12. Three "Little Amik" pins. Little Amik is our town mascot!
13. Small black note book.
14. Some large black garbage bags.
15. A large coffee mug.
16. A cute stuffed moose in case you have a little one along or for the "moose-track stew" guy you're with!!!
17. Roll of Spear-O-Mint lifesavers.
Question: Why did they leave a little bit of the mountain? Quality or too many pink and white veins?
