Located on the beautiful wild and scenic upper Chatanika River upstream from the long-abandoned goldmining camp of Chatanika deep in the vast interior of Alaska
Steeped in mining lore. the Chatanika River winds through a valley thinly wooded with spruce, poplar and birch. The river character in summer is swift rated class I and II but that does not take into account the danger added by sweepers and log jams that sometimes completely obstruct the channel. In winter the river provides a wide open corridor for winter travel, albeit with risks of open water and overflow. The cache is located on the left bank of the river by a cascading brook that may be simply a trickle in the dry season. There are nice views up and down river. Please leave no food in cache, this is bear country
