Cape Jourimain Lighthouse Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Cache-tech: Environment and Climate Change Canada/Environnement et Changement climatique Canada have placed a series of caches as part of the ‘’Connecting Canadians to nature’’ initiative. As they manage the National Wildlife Areas, the new caches have permission of the property manager. Therefore, as this cache does not have permission from the property manager, I have to archive this listing. The cache owner can contact me through my profile linked to this account or respond to my message already for options. Thank you for your understanding.

Geocache Description:

ONE IN A SERIES OF LIGHTHOUSE CACHES.
For a comprehensive history of this and all LHs in NB pick up a copy of the book
'Lighthouses of New Brunswick: Past & Present'.

The Cape Jourimain lighthouse is located in the Cape Jourimain Nature Park (visit link) at the NB end of the Confederation Bridge. One of only nine octagonal wooden towers remaining in the province, this lighthouse is a designated Federal heritage building because of the ornate cornice work beneath the lantern room gallery.

The cache is located about ½ mile in from the parking lot along the Lighthouse Trail. Some light bushwhacking is required at the very end. The cache is a camo'd tobacco container containing logbook etc.
There is a gift shop, restaurant, interpretive center, washrooms and tourist info center in the park as well as the beautiful trails and vistas. If visiting in the summer months I would STRONGLY recommend bug spray!
Enjoy!

2011: There is no longer any fees to access the Cape Jourimain facilities including the trails; this is a departure from the original $6 per person. However, in 2016 the lighthouse was successfully moved back from the edge of the embankment (a costly endeavour) by the group that now operates the LH so if you enjoyed this park a donation to the LH would be appreciated by all I'm sure. The center is open (mid-May thru mid-Oct). I assume the trails are still accessible during the off season but for hours of operation please visit this link (visit link)

AS ALWAYS, PLEASE LEAVE CACHE AS WELL OR BETTER HIDDEN THAN YOU FOUND IT
