Swan Valley: Holland Falls
Hwy 200 east to the Clearwater Junction (Big cow), 36 miles north to Holland Lake Road. Follow Holland Lake Road to the trailhead. The trail is 3 miles round trip to the falls.
Trail is well traveled but gets a bit steep for some out of shape people like myself. However we have seen many small children visiting the falls.
As of 7/28/07, the cache has been replaced and is now a decon canister. This should help protect it from local wildlife (the chipmunks up there are the size of small dogs) and hopefully make it small enough to keep well hidden. The container is downslope from the falls viewpoint in steep terrain. You will need to pick your way carefully down the rocky slope to a small level area containing five small trees; you may not want to take children or dogs down to the actual cache location. The coords at the top of the page and the hint have been updated to reflect the new hide. I experienced a lot of drift in the area and did not have stellar accuracy, so feel free to consult the hint for a detailed description of the hiding spot.
IMPORTANT--a note on decon canisters:
These containers are extremely secure and water tight when closed properly. Please ensure that all four corners of the lid snap firmly into place before returning the container to it's hiding spot. Otherwise, water will get in and the contents will be ruined. Closing the container sometimes requires a great deal of force. The container will only close properly if the writing utensils are placed in the canister diagonally, so please avoid stuffing the container too full with trinkets. This is a small now, so only a few small items will fit! I would rather have you take something without trading that leave a bulky item that compromises your ability to close the lid snugly.
