*gln: ### ARCHIVING CACHE ###

Since you haven't repaired your cache I can only assume that your priorities have changed and you’ve gone in a different direction.

While I feel that we should hold the location for you we can't do so forever.
If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the VERY near future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the current guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Let me know if I can be of assistance in the future.

Thanks,
*gln, Mongo

Geocache Description:

For solitude and beauty this 3-mile hike (one way) is hard to beat. The real reward is the panoramic view of the Belleview valley from the top of Bald Knob. I guarantee you won’t want to leave.

Park at N37º 40.866, W90º 41.574. The first mile is the only real challenge. You’ll gain over 600 ft in elevation and the average slope grade is 9.4%. The trail is also very rocky. Unless you’re in good shape, I recommend pacing yourself on this part, so you’ll have plenty of energy to enjoy the rest of the hike. Take it slow and stop often. Take a few minutes to inspect what’s left of the stone fence at N37º 41.495, W90º 41.632. Why would someone work so hard to build a fence like that up here? Keep in mind that it’s just as hard coming down this slope as it is going up.

I thought it would be helpful to make this cache a mini-survival kit because by the time you reach it, you’ll be in your own private world and quite a distance from your car. Here are the original contents.

· AA batteries
· Cotton swabs
· Compass
· First aid kit
· Sting relief kit
· Splinter removal kit
· Instant cold packs
· Emergency rain ponchos
· Log book and pen

Please take only what you need. The next geocacher may be in worse shape than you. Feel free to add something useful to the kit.

The cache is at the Bald Knob scenic overlook. It’s an olive drab Army ammunition box. There is also a loop trail if you want to hike a couple more miles before heading back. It is not shown on the Conservation Dept. map. Contact me and I’ll email you a map that shows this trail.
