Geocache Description:

This cache is the oldest cache of "Linz - Land" (LL)!

This is my first cache, and the first one in Linz. Well not quite, it is a few metres outside of Linz, according to my map.

Finding the "Traunschatz" should be a nice walk, or an adventure.

You do not need any special equipment, but appropriate clothes might be a good idea: You will quite certainly get dirty, and long sleeves might be a good idea too, as you are following a very narrow path in a forest. You don't want to get scratches, do you?

The container you are looking for is a transparent 15cm by 10cm plastic box, with a green lid. I turned it on its head intentionally, so you won't see too much green.

The best way to find this cache is by bike or by foot. You can park your car somewhere in the vicinity, e.g. at N 48° 12.960' / E 14° 15.550'.

Go to the location 48° 13.06' / E 14° 15.43', where you should see a large sign with a number. Write down this number, we will call it "X".

Find Location 48° 13.(X-22)' / E 14° 16.(X-52)', you can get there by following the path you are standing on (next to the sign) and passing below the bridge, making a turn to the right. Stay on the path until you see a structure made of metal and wood. You will recognize it, if you come close to the calculated coordinates. If you are standing beside this structure, you can see a path leading into the wood. Just to be sure you've found the right path, the spot where this path starts is at N 48° 13.70' / E 14° 16.(x-48)'.

Leave your bicycle there (if you are riding one), next to the metal structure. This part of finding the cache is best done by foot.

Follow this path for about 10 minutes, the direction is approximately NE. After some time in the forest, the path continues next to the river. Just follow it some more, until you discover a concrete structure (it took me 8 minutes of walking, but I was quite fast, so 10 might be quite realistic if you walk this path for the first time). You really can't miss this structure. It's old, overgrown, covered in moss and really made of concrete.

The location of this concrete structure next to the water is a good place to get back the GPS signal, in case you have lost it in the forest on the footpath.

From this concrete structure follow the path for another 120 steps. You should find a marker made of concrete (about 10cm or 4 inches diameter) directly on the path, a little bit on the right side. This is some sort of benchmark. It has a metal circle in its center to align surveying equipment.

From this benchmark follow the path for another X - 40 steps (or accordingly more or less, if it took you more or less steps than 120 to get to the mark).

Turn left, go another 5 or 10 steps, the cache should be to your left, no further than 10 steps away. There are lots of plants however, therefore it is not easy to find.

One rule for swapping though: I don´t want to see golfballs in this cache!

Have fun!
