Há importantes vestígios de dinossáurios em Portugal que aparecem
sob diversas formas, das quais se destacam as ossadas e as
pegadas.
Foi na Era
Secundária (período compreendido entre os 570 e os 65 milhões de
anos) que existiu a maior diversidade de dinossáurios. Uns eram
carnívoros, outros herbívoros, uns viviam em manadas, outros
isoladamente, uns eram pacíficos, outros ferozes caçadores. Em 1981
foi descoberta, em lajes verticais de composição carbonatada a sul
da Praia Grande, uma importante jazida de pegadas de dinossáurios.
Nestas lajes, formadas há 106 milhões de anos em ambiente marinho
de pouca profundidade, encontra-se um conjunto de 66 pegadas
tridáctilas (com 3 dedos), das quais 51 se encontram distribuídas
ao longo de 11 pistas.

There are important vestiges of dinossaurs in Portugal that appear
under diverse forms, of which if they detach the skeletons and the
footprints. It was in the Secondary Age (period understood between
the 570 and 65 million years) that the biggest diversity of
dinossáurios existed. Some were carnivorous, other herbívoros, some
lived in herds, others separately, some were pacific, other fierce
hunters. In 1981 it was discovered, in vertical flagstone of
carbonated composition the south of the Praia Grande, an important
deposit of footprints of dinossaurs. In these flagstone, formed it
has 106 million years in marine environment of little depth, meets
a set of 66 footprints tridáctilas (with 3 fingers), of which 51 if
they find distributed throughout 11 tracks.

Pelo estudo da forma e dimensão das pistas e das pegadas, do ângulo
formado entre os dedos, da profundidade da marca dos dedos e
calcanhares, entre outros, é possível determinar não apenas as
espécies de dinossáurios que deixaram estes trilhos, mas também
algumas características do comportamento que apresentavam aquando
da impressão da pegada (por exemplo, se estavam a andar ou a
correr).
Foi assim que se determinou que grande parte das pistas foram
deixadas por um dinossáurio que pertence ao género
Megalossauros. [1]
Eram dinossáurios carnívoros que podiam atingir 6 a 7 metros de
comprimento e 8 metros de altura, pesando 4 a 5 toneladas.
As outras pistas desta jazida foram deixadas por animais do género
Iguanodonte (“dente de iguana”) [2] que eram herbívoros de
grande porte, com braços desenvolvidos e que podiam marchar como
quadrúpedes. Podiam atingir 10 metros de comprimento e 5 metros de
altura quando erguidos.

By the study of the form and dimension of the tracks and the
footprints, of the angle formed between the fingers, of the depth
of the mark of the fingers and heels, among others, it is possible
to not only determine the species of dinossaurs that had left these
tracks, but also some characteristics of the behavior that
presented during the print of the footprint (for example, if they
were to walk or to run). It was thus that if it determined that
great part of the tracks had been left by a dinossaur that belongs
to a Megalossauros kind. [ 1 ] Was dinossaur carnivores who
could reach the 6 or 7 meters of length and 8 meters of
height, weighing the 4 or 5 tons. The other tracks of this deposit
had been left by animals of género Iguanodonte (iguana
tooth) [ 2 ] that they were herbivores of great transport, with
developed arms and that they could march as quadruped. They could
reach 10 meters of length and 5 meters of height when raised.

Nesta praia é ainda possível encontrar camadas rochosas mais
recentes, ricas em fósseis de ostras, típicas do ambiente salobro,
na transição entre o fluvial e o marinho.

In this beach it is still possible to find more recent rocky
layers, rich in fossils of oysters, typical of the salt
environment, in the transistion between fluvial and the marine
one.

A melhor hora do dia para observar as pegadas de dinossáurio da
Praia Grande é quando existe luz rasante à laje, perto do
meio-dia.

The best hour of the day to observe the footprints of dinossaurs of
the Praia Grande is when levelling light to the flagstone exists,
close to midday.

Cache
P: Esta é uma cache regular (bomboneira de vidro) com o
intuito de dar a conhecer um pouco mais da Praia Grande que não
seja o “Surf”, pois está colocada num sítio rochoso com uma
excelente vista para o mar onde a difículdade predumina parte final
da cache.
Para a fazer é necessário estacionar a viatura a cerca de 180
metros do local no Waypoint

atravessar um pouco da areia da praia e subir os cerca de 311
degraus no final da Praia Grande junto à encosta onde pode
verificar as 66 pegadas de Dinossauros, aconselho muita cautela ao
subir, principalmente em tempo húmido, pois a escadaria é
constituida de pequenos degraus um pouco estreitos ( cuidado com as
crianças ). Junto ao local da cache consegue-se avistar o
farol da Praia da Adraga. Se quiser pode ir até lá através da
encosta.
Aproveite esta cache para pôr o brozeador e ir à praia.
E: This is a regular cache (glass bottle) with the intention
for let you know a little more of Praia Grande, just not a “Surf”,
this is in a rocky place with an excellent sightseing to the ocean,
where the difficult is in the final of this cache.
To find this cache it's necessary put your vehicle at 180 meters in
the Waypoint

cross a little of sand and go up for 311 steps in final of Praia
Grande near of a clif where you con see 66 dinosaurs footprints, I
advice you to be very careful to going up, in particular in wet
time, because the stairs is constituted with the small steps a
little thin (Be careful with the children’s). Near the cache you
can see the lighthouse of Praia da Adraga. If you want you can go
there by the clif.
