Geocache Description:

A fairly common two-part cache, with both sites located on the Eden Mill grounds. Requires some uphill walking along the way. Only use hints if you need assistance.

To make the cache a little more interesting, we’ve made it a simple two-parter that combines both history and nature. After finding part one and doing the suggested math, you can either hoof it from part one to part two (and back again), or you drive down the road to a small parking lot (N39.40.650 W076.27.312) that gets you much closer to the cache. You’ll STILL have a decent walk ahead of you even if you drive to the small parking lot, so don’t feel that you’re taking the wimpy way out by going that route!

PART ONE

The coordinates above
(N 39 °40.517 W 076 °27.162) will take you to part one of the cache, and if your timing is right you may have an opportunity to enjoy an indoor side visit. Displayed prominently on the structure at these coordinates (look up!) are words with the initials E.M.C. and a year displayed adjacent to them. Use the four digits of the indicated year to complete the following “puzzle” and determine the coordinates for part two: Take the first two digits of the displayed four-digit year and add 53 to determine the missing “##” digits of coordinate N 39 ° 40.##7 Take the last two digits of the displayed four-digit year and subtract 83 to determine the missing “##” digits of coordinate W 76 ° 27.7##.

PART TWO

Armed with the coordinates from part one, plug them into your GPS to see how far away the cache is located, and pick your poison—a long distance trek, or a somewhat shorter drive, park, and trek. The park at which the cache is hidden has a nice network of trails that wind all over the place, so it’s up to you to decide which one(s) may lead to the cache! The terrain difficulty rating takes into account that you will need to hoof it up some moderate inclines that may leave you breathing a little hard . Clues regarding the cache hiding spot are provided in the “Additional Hints” section in case you need them.

*SUGGESTION*
If you choose to park at the second parking area, you will have a choice of directions to take. If you take the first path to the right just past the yellow gate, you will have a healthy uphill hike of approximately .35 miles as the crow flies. If you are also planning to do the CAM 2008 cache while visiting Eden Mill, you can walk past the yellow gate and walk directly to Deer Creek. You are still .34 miles from the cache container. Then turn right and follow the Marsh Trail to the END OF PROPERTY sign. From this point you will have to climb the stairs to the top of the hill. Once you are at the top of the hill, find the BEAVER TRAIL and proceed to the second END OF PROPERTY sign. Once you have found this sign, you are very close to the cache container.
