Well, I though I was going to be the first to add a cache at a site like this, but Moss Trooper beat me to it by a few days with "Echoes of Days Gone By"
As with the related cache this one is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
A forerunner of RADAR, acoustic mirrors were intended to provide early warning of incoming enemy aeroplanes and airships about to attack towns near the British coast. With the development of faster aircraft the sound mirrors became less useful, as an aircraft would be within sight by the time it had been located.
Mirrors were built in the north east, at
Boulby
Hartlepool (demolished)
Kilnsea
Redcar
Sunderland
And on the south coast at
Abbot's Cliff, east of Folkestone
Dungeness
Hythe
Langdon Bay east of Dover
Warden Point Isle of Sheppy
To log this cache mail me the reference number on the lamppost directly opposite.
